During the Frieren: Beyond The Journey’s End panel at Anime Expo 2025, a brand new teaser promotional video was revealed, giving us a first look at the new season which is now set for January 2026.

The promotional video feature new scenes in season two, along with newly recorded voice lines from the main cast, Atsumi Tanezaki as Frieren, Kana Ichinose as Fern, and Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark. Alongside the teaser, it was revealed that there would be some new staff members working on the series. Tomoya Kitagawa, who directed several episodes from the first season will be the head director for the second season, and Daiki Harashina, who worked on the monster designs and directed key episodes in season one, will serve as assistant director.

Several key staff members from season one will be returning, Tomohiro Suzuki will be back for series compositions and scripts and Maru Takase, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka will be back for character designs. Composer Evan Call will also be returning to handle the soundtrack. The previous director of season one, Keiichiro Saito, will stay on as a supervising director to support the new team.

Producer Yuichiro Fukushi, from Madhouse explained that this new director lineup was carefully chosen to carry the series forward while keeping the creative vision strong. He promised more exciting and emotional storytelling in season two.

Yamada and Abe launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, published by Shogakukan, back in April 2020. Since then, the series has received plenty of recognition. It won the New Creator Prize at the 25th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2021, along with the 14th Manga Taisho Award that same year. The manga was also nominated for Best Shonen Manga at Kodansha’s 45th and 46th Annual Manga Awards in 2021 and 2022. In addition, the American Library Association’s Graphic Novels & Comics Round Table included it in its list of the top 10 Best Graphic Novels for Adults in 2022.
